"I want to say hello to Bush, to shake his hand"

Afraid that the US and Britain will abandon them, the people of Safwan did not touch the portraits and murals of Saddam Hussein hanging everywhere. It was left to the marines to tear them down. It did not mean there was not heartfelt gladness at the marines' arrival. Ajami Saadoun Khlis, whose son and brother were executed under the Saddam regime, sobbed like a child on the shoulder of the Guardian's Egyptian translator. He mopped the tears but they kept coming.

"You just arrived," he said. "You're late. What took you so long? God help you become victorious. I want to say hello to Bush, to shake his hand. We came out of the grave."

There will be a lot more of that.

But this had BETTER NEVER happen: "Afraid that the US and Britain will abandon them"

I have confidence we won't.

FF,just a reminder, not all liberals are of one mind on all subjects. We do think for ourselves. At least this one does.

>At least this one does

I know you do...

But so many I have personally seen and talked to are just 'one liners' like "no blood for oil" but when asked to elaborate have nothing to say.

Problem is Frank, some people equate no war the same thing as peace..Peace without freedom is not peace at all.

the same jerks that say no blood for oil don't realize that Saddam is worth about 7 billion dollars in a population of 30 million people..if he were to give 1 million bucks to each person living there he would still be worth over 6 Bill....But nooo.. the average teacher over there make about $1.50 a month.

FF,just a pet peeve of mine.I think the problem with our current government is that congress and the senate almost always vote along party lines. It is not about whether an idea is good or bad,its all about whose idea it was. This is why shit doesn't get done. What's the answer?I don't know.A viable third party would help, but doubt that would ever happen.Although I am very liberal,I prefer to make up my own mind on any given issue.Actually becoming indifferent because of the way our system has been working as of late.
